It requires the use of a PC or a laptop and begins with downloading and installing the Java Development Kit if it is not already installed. Follow this up by downloading and installing the latest release of the android SDK. Initiate the command prompt by clicking on the start button and typing ‘cmd’. Right click on the command prompt and run with the administrator rights. When the dialogue box appears, click on ‘Yes’. Proceed to type the command; cd C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools, on the ‘cmd’.

How To Fix Insufficient Storage Available Error

This is about half through this third step on how to fix insufficient storage available error on android phones. Now on your android phone, click on Menu button and scroll to Settings. Once here find Applications and on Applications find Development and enable the USB debugging. After completing this, connect the android phone to the computer using the USB cable. Perform the following command ‘adb shell pm getInstallLocation’ and you will get options from the output. The output options are; 0 or auto which the system decides the best location, 1or internal if you want to install the application in the internal storage of the android phone and finally 2 or external to install the application on external storage. Since the android devices do not have vast internal storage resources, a good choice would be option 2 which is expandable. Finally, go to the phone and disable USB debugging and close the command prompt.
You have now successfully completed how to fix insufficient storage available error on android phones in easy to follow steps. You can enjoy the experience the android phone will give you especially with the numerous apps made available for android.

Blacked out S4 applications Updated

This is where you can come to get your stock S4 apps blacked out! The white background for MMS, contacts, calculator, etc are so bright, and annoying! Not to mention the fact that the S4 has a Super AMOLED display, which consumes a ton of power while using apps with white backgrounds. This is why i have done what i have. If you text a lot, this can help save some battery life, as black pixels take 0 power to display. This will now flash everything in one go (MMS, Contacts, Phone, Framework, and Calculator).

This should work on any deodex build. NOT ODEX. The main version is Verizon/Sprint and there's a separate T-Mobile version. I haven't had any reports about AT&T

PLEASE READ THE FAQ'S BELOW BEFORE FLASHING OR ASKING QUESTIONS

Black it all out T-Mobile! 7-18-13
Black it all out T-Mobile Revert !
Blacked out XDA! Please read the FAQ before flashing!

FAQ
Q: Can i flash these on any S4 ROM?
A: As long as the ROM is deodexed, then yes. This will NOT work on any odex builds.

Q: Will this wipe any data?
A: Sort of. Since flashing the framework is required, you will need to set up your accounts (Google, email, etc) again after booting up.

Q: Do i need to wipe caches before flashing?
A: No

Q: How do i get the custom background found in the screenshots?
A: For the different background, you need to flash the custom framework background zip in the op after the main zip (unless the main is already installed).

Q: Can you also theme (random third party app)
A: Probably not because if i take one request, I will have to take them all

Q: How needs to be done before flashing XDA?
A: First you need to flash the main black out zip (unless you already have the newest version with the xda fix installed), then uninstall your xda app from your phone. You may now flash the zip.

Q: Why do i need to do the above to flash the XDA zip?
A: For some reason the flash to data/app/ (where user apps are installed) does not work. It will only work by flashing to system/app/. Once this is done you can always convert it back to a user app if you wish.

Is there a Ubuntu Touch Build for Your Device?

Is there a Ubuntu Touch Build for Your Device?
A couple of months ago, Ubuntu Touch was unveiled for mobile devices to much hype and excitement. Along with the announcement, a handy porting guideand accompanying source code were introduced to the members of the dev community who were interested in testing the developers preview of the device. The porting process turned out to be somewhat similar to building a CM10.1-based Rom.
Fast forward 3 months and you have yourself an entire list of devices that have had a taste of Ubuntu Touch. Compiled by XDA Senior Member TingTingin, the list of 41 different devices include the familiar Nexus family of the 4710 and Galaxy, the Xperia S and Neo V, the HTC EVO 4G and Sensation, and interestingly the Samsung Wave and Wave 2 that shipped with the Bada operating system.
All credit for the ports go to their respective developers, and it’s great to see the enthusiasm and altruism they have displayed with these works. Also please be aware that many of these ports require some pretty complicated processes to install successfully, especially for users who may be new to this.
So if you would like to check out which devices are supported, visit the compilation in the original post. After all, you may even find yours on the list. If you have any further questions regarding Ubuntu Touch, make sure to bring them up with the Ubuntu engineers at their Q&A.

Activate Actions upon Removal of NFC Tags

Activate Actions upon Removal of NFC Tags
Using NFC to launch actions or perform certain tasks when you tap your device on a tag is a pretty cool thing. In fact, it’s hardly something new, as we’ve even covered a few tools that let you do so easily. These past uses, however, rely on tapping a tag to perform an action. Wouldn’t it be useful for other use-cases if you could activate a task when removing a tag from your device? Just think; this could allow you to do things such as setting up an NFC-based alarm or both activating and removing settings changes when a tag is touched.
Thankfully, this is where XDA Forum Member madfish73 comes in. Similarly to the previously linked article, this functionality is accomplished using AnyTAG NFC.  However, it is actually a modified version of AnyTAG that is used in this guide, and a few modifications are made to your device’s NFC.apk to add in the android.nfc.action.TAG_LOST intent and enable tag removal detection functionality.
As described by the guide author:
What this mod can do?
after did this mod, with AnyTag(mod) + tasker + secure settings plugin + secure settings helper, you can:
1. put your phone on the “Bedside tag”, your phone turn to silence mod, take the phone off the tag, your phone auto turn off silence mod
2. put your phone on the “CarDock tag”, your phone auto unlock, turn to CarHome mode, run some special apps, take the phone off the tag, your phone auto kill some special apps, exit carhome mode, lock screen …
3. Other things you can image….

Halo Transforms Notifications Into Chat Heads a La Facebook

fb chatheads
This is how Paranoid Android imagines Halo to be. @Paranoid Android
Facebook is certainly not a company that chooses to rest on its laurels and they have proven this by offering updates to their Facebook app periodically, be it on the mobile or desktop platforms. One of their latest changes would be the introduction of Chat Heads that changes the way you message one another in Facebook on your mobile device. Well, the team behind the Paranoid Android custom ROM are currently developing a system which enables you to perform additional multitasking, calling it “Halo.”
Halo would ride on the Chat Head concept of a persistent bubble which will launch the Facebook Messenger app right on top of your current app, universalizing it in the process. Should there be any app that sends a notification to Android, it will head right into the Halo bubble, and you can tap on it in order to check out the pop-up window which allows you to access the SMS, email, or whatever else behind the notification on the spot.
This particular feature is not quite ready for prime time use among users yet and should it be, you are still required to install the ParanoidAndroid custom ROM. This is definitely not child’s play, but the reward is worth the effort methinks. The team behind this Halo shebang were certainly inspired by Facebook, having written down, "let us express our absolute gratitude to Facebook for this idea! We loved it from the start."
If you're not sure you want to install the custom Rom ParanoidAndroid, you can read our illustrated test here.

Is PayPal Support Finally Coming to Google Play?

Code buried within Google Wallet suggests the new payment method is coming soon. / © Anbieter/AndroidPIT
There are a number of payment methods Google Play allows, including credit and debit card transactions, as well as billing to mobile carriers. However, PayPal has never been an option. This has irked a number of Android fans, especially those living outside the United States without access to Visa or Mastercards. In Germany, for example, most banks give out EC cards, which are not valid for use with Google Play. Many have wondered when Google would finally allow direct bank transfers.
It appears the answer is: soon! JavaScript file found by Google Systems Blog includes many curious references to PayPal. In the file, which is used by Google Wallet, PayPal is listed alongside Maestro and carriers like Sprint, Softbank and Vodafone. Google's own code also lists PayPal UUIDs, which are used by the PayPal Merchant API.
There are even error codes which include the name PayPal, including: PAYPAL_INSTRUMENT_ERROR" next to messages like "GIFT_CARD_ALREADY_REDEEMED" and "INVALID_CREDIT_CARD".

While we can't be entirely certain that PayPal is coming to Google Wallet anytime soon, this is certainly promising.
Would you appreciate it if Google Wallet allowed purchases to be made via PayPal?

Samsung Galaxy S4: Camera Software Featured In A Hands-On Test

The Samsung Galaxy S4 is filled to the rafters with extra features, like we've already discussed in yesterday's article regarding its various ''Smart'' features (Air View, Smart Scroll, Smart Pause etc), which react by voice control, eye movement, head and smartphone motion. We also discussed whether they really work in day-to-day use. In this second part, we will be taking a closer look at the camera software.

The Galaxy S4's camera has a resolution of 13 MP, nothing too fancy. What makes it interesting are the numerous capture modes and extra functions, with which Samsung has equipped its shining new beacon. Most of these are available within the viewfinder image. Here you'll find the ''Mode'' button under the trigger button, which will open a menu encompassing 12 capture modes. This includes ''Auto'', ''Sound&Shot'' and ''Night mode'', just to name a few. I tested out all of these modes and the results were in fact quite surprising.

Auto

The automatic mode will independantly establish all of the settings and actually worked quite well during my test. This mode is perfect for normal use and provided excellent results for pictures in landscape mode all the way to macro photos.

Beauty Shot

This mode is quite useful, especially if you want to acheive amazing results without having to put makeup on. It gives you a ironed-out, soft picture, mark and blemish free. Go from being a real-looking person to a person on the cover of a magazine. The software never failed and always did the trick of making you look more ''beautiful''.

Best photo

This mode will quickly shoot a whole row of pictures and sounds like you're being blizzed by a whole gang of paparazzi. This works especially well when you want to capture a more ''natural'' pose and then lets you select which photos you like the best. In fact, the camera will take 8 pictures in only 2 seconds, save them and then let you choose your favorites.

Best Face

This is very similar to Best Photo. What it does is take 5 pictures in about 3 seconds and the software will recognize all of the individual faces in the picture. Afterwards, you'll be able to select the desired face for each of the people from these 5 pictures. This is perfect for group pictures: there is always one person whose eyes are closed and this feature will therefore make the impossible possible (everyone will actually looks decent!).

Sound&Shot

These functions remind me of HTC's Zoe, which enriches your holiday, party and concert pictures with background sounds. First off, the picture will be taken and during the few moments that follow it will take 9 seconds of background noise. The playback of this sound is only possible on your smartphone. When saving the picture, it will stored as JPG in your gallery without the sound information.

Drama

I found this to be a really cool mode, though it takes some practice before you can actually achieve decent results. I found myself hoping back and forth while the photographer tried to capture my jump trajectory. What it does is quickly take many pictures one after the other, which creates an action shot. That being said, the result was a little unclear and overlapped.

Sport

This mode, similar to drama, has the aim of capturing fast movements. This didn't work too well and was very blurry. I think it would need more playing around with before you actually get the hang of how to use it.

Animated Photos

This mode, like the name explains, is a mix of a still picture and a gif (moving picture). One part of the picture will be moving, while the other stay immobile. With my finger I was able to choose the area that would be animated or frozen. In my picture, I took my collegue in front of a moving tram, freezing my buddy and animating the tram. After a few processing seconds, it will in fact be saved as a GIF file, where the tram moves back and forth. The movements were a little choppy and I think that an endless loop would have been better for a smoother looking GIF, which usually is a feature for this type of file.

HDR

Top-end smartphones of today all have HDR mode, which means High Dynamic Range. This will give a picture a higher contrast range and is particularly useful for extra bright or darker image regions. With the S4, this mode smooths out the colors by making darker areas lighter and vice-versa. The results, as you can see below, weren't too bad, though the lighter regions became a little too dark.
HDR
The HDR function on the right was really effective, but it could have kept some of its brightness. © AndroidPIT

Eraser

This mode is particularly practical if you want to photograph your loved-ones in front a beautiful waterfall and some sunburnt tourist with a Hawaian shirt walks right in front. Now the software will recognize the moving pixels and mark them in the display. Just like the Drama mode, you're able to erase the moving areas with your finger. The results were in fact quite inpressive, though the software isn't 100% error-free and sometimes doesn't recognize moving objects.

Panorma

This feature was already a cool option within the Galaxy S3's many modes and has now become a standard among smartphone cameras. Simply press on the trigger button and turn either left or right. The camera will then capture a 360° panorama. This works quite well, but you should make sure that there are no moving objects in your trajectory, since these will be cut out or will appear more than once.

Night Mode

Most smartphone cameras flop when in gets dark out. What night mode does is iron-out the picture and gets rid of image noise, which usually appears when there is minimal light and darker areas. I couldn't test this out at night, but tried it out in the terrible lighting of the elevator, where the quality was indeed noticebly improved.

On top of the twelve effects, there are also some cool setting options that don't jump out at you, which requiring a little bit of digging. On the bottom part of the screen, you'll find various colorand photo filters, like sepia and fisheye. I think it's worth mentioning the camera's macro quality. Without having to first switch to macro mode, taking a picture at about 3.9 inches away from the object came out extremely sharp and rich in detail.

By clicking on the symbol in the top left corner, you can set up the ''Dual Camera''. This feature will turn on both the back and front camera, so that the photographer is also in the shot. This might be useful in situations where the picture-taker is always left out of a group picture. Well no more thanks to this feature!

Another cool feature for group photos or to squeeze a smile out of the targeted person is voice command. In order to set this up, you'll have to go under ''My Device'' and activate ''Voice control'' and then check the camera box. Unfortunatly, you only have the following commands: ''smile'', ''please smile'', ''click'' and ''snap''. Honestly though, I'm surprised ''say cheese'' wasn't included in this list. It would also be neat to choose your own words.
Last but not least, there's the fast start function. This isn't something that pertains only to Samsung, pretty much all manufacturers offer it. Fast start can be activated from the lockscreen and you can set this up by going under ''My Device'', then ''lockscreen''. Here you'll check off the ''more widgets'', as well as slide ''favorite apps or camera'' to green (switch on) under ''lockscreen widgets''. Tapping on the switch will open up another menu, where you need to select ''camera''. Don't forget to ''save'' and your camera will appear in the lockscreen when you swipe from left to right in the top third of the display.

Bottom Line

I was actually quite surprised and impressed with the Galaxy S4's numerous camera options. The image quality ranges from good to very good, as is the case for most smartphone cameras. That being said, there are a few different features that are just fun to play around with, but wouldn't find their way into everday life. The dual-camera, for example, is more of a fun extra than a must-have. ''Sport'' and ''Drama'' also impressed me, though the ''Beauty Photo'' looked a tad too ironed-out. That being said, the camera in automatic mode worked so well that I might just stick to this one and play around with the filters and colors. Even if you favor the automatic photos, you're still using one of the best cameras in the smartphone world.
